The City of Swan manages more than 50 bushland and foreshore reserves which are important to both local residents and visitors.  The City is also home to three national parks managed by CALM (Walyunga, John Forrest and Avon Valley), State government conservation areas including Whiteman Park and private conservation areas including Karakamia and Paruna wildlife sanctuaries.  These bushland areas provide valuable places to enjoy the unique qualities of the Australian bush, from the intricate ecosystems of our waterways to our famous wildflowers, birds and fauna in their natural habitat.  The City is currently participating in the Perth Biodiversity Project (PBP) and a local biodiversity project to identify and protect all locally significant bushland in the City. 

Bushland places managed by the City include:

  • Gidgegannup - FR Berry Reserve, Reen Road - Picnic areas, barbecues, walk trail, Woorooloo Brook (waterfall and pools), wildflowers, bird viewing
  • Brigadoon - Bells Rapids, Cathedral Avenue - Picnic areas, barbecues, walk trail, waterfalls, connected to bridle trails
  • Stratton - Talbot Road bushland, off Myles or Talbot Roads - Wildflowers, walk trails
  • Bullsbrook - Burley Park, corner Chittering and Smith Roads - Wildflowers, picnic areas, historic school site
  • Woodbridge / Viveash - John George Walk Trail, connecting Reg Bond Park - (Bernley Drive, Viveash) to Ray Marshall Park (First Avenue, Woodbridge) - Riverine environment, walking, fishing, picnicking, barbecues

Other bushland areas include:

  • Whiteman Park - off Beechboro Road North or Lord Street, Whiteman - Guided walks, train and tram rides, museum,
  • Caversham Wildlife Park, shops and exhibition - centres, picnic facilities, regular events - refer to www.whitemanpark.com.au
  • Karakamia and Paruna Sanctuaries
