Customer Services 9267 9267 www.cityofswan.com/services/development Are you planning to place a sign on your property? There are certain regulations you must check before proceeding. Commercial signs All commercial (advertising) signs are dealt with under the Town Planning Scheme. Please contact the City if you intend placing a commercial sign on your property. Pylon signs Pylon signs are at least three metres high, supported by one or more piers and not attached to a building. They are generally used to advertise the location of a business, or feature a business name or logo. Before erecting a pylon sign you will need to seek a Building Licence from the City of Swan and you may also need Planning Approval. As failure to obtain City approval could result in removal of the sign at the owner’s expense it is recommended that you contact the City for advice before proceeding. Please note that pylon signs are not permitted on residential properties. Portable signs Portable signs are signs not permanently attached to a building or structure that advertise a product or service. The first portable sign does not require approval provided it is not larger than 0.8m2. Additional portable signs must be licensed through the City. To license your portable sign you need to make a written application and pay an application and licence fee to the City of Swan. Please note that portable signs are not permitted on residential properties, verges, roundabouts or median strips.
