About RoadWise

RoadWise is the Local Government and Community Road Safety Program in Western Australia and has been in operation since 1994. RoadWise aims to contribute to the long term vision of the Road Safety Council in eliminating road crashes as a major cause of premature death and injury, by increasing community support, partnerships and participation in the implementation of the State Road Safety Strategy 2003-2007, Arriving Safely.

The Program consists of a community road safety network, supported by regional officers who work with Councils and RoadWise Committees and the Community Road Safety Grants Program.Three levels of coordination (State, Regional and Local) make up the Operational Framework of the RoadWise Program. The RoadWise Program is funded through the Road Trauma Trust Fund and the National Safety Council of WA Trust.

Representatives from the City of Swan, the WA Police, Main Roads WA , RoadWise, Apex, Volunteer Fire Service, Lions, RAAF Base Pearce and the Swan community meet as a Committee on the third Thursday of every month.

Projects/Issues

  • Reggies Road Rules: Through posters put up at locations throughout the City, Reggie clarifies various road rules. Posters are changed bimonthly. Click here to view a complete set of the posters.
  • Reggie says ‘Make School Days Safe Days’. Click here to view the pamphlet.
  • Twice yearly free vehicle checks which, in the past, have included a child restraint checking service. With the help and support of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, Australian Racing Scrutineers, Bunnings and others, this event has become both popular and successful.
  • Neighbourhood Speed Watch - As a combined initiative between the City of Swan RoadWise and Midland Traffic Police, Neighbourhood Speed Watch has been developed to reduce speeding and other dangerous driving behaviour in local streets by giving the community a tool to report incidents to Police. Pamphlets with incident report forms have been distributed throughout the City of Swan and can be lodged with several venues. Click here to view the pamphlet.
  • Drink driving- The Committee works extensively with the many licensed premises in the area and is represented on the Swan Valley Tourism Council Events Committee. Events such as Spring in the Valley will see committee members educating patrons on the dangers of drink driving and ways to avoid it.
  • Rail Crossing Safety- Swan is one of the pilot areas for the Rail Crossing Safety Community Education Campaign, a state-wide campaign aimed at reducing the incidence of train versus vehicle crashes.
